As mentioned in our previous articles, parents want to see their child improve, they want to see some results for their investment in their child’s lessons.
That’s why, it’s vital that a focus is placed on maximising student progression rates and teaching standards at your swim school.
Teaching standards have a big impact on customer retention so should be a key focus for all swim schools.
One of the best ways to evaluate your center’s teaching standards is by monitoring progression rates of teachers.
You’re always going to have a variety of different teachers with their own style of teaching.
Sometimes, you will have teachers whose style or method of teaching may not lead to students progressing at the expected rate. It doesn’t mean they are bad teacher; these teachers may just need some development in terms of their teaching methods or the way they teach kids.
The problem is that it’s extremely difficult to identify teachers that are struggling with their teaching skills without micro managing and looking at every single class taking place.
The best way to monitor teacher progression performance is by tracking and monitoring it but this needs to be done in an efficient manner.
Let’s look at an example of how we can track teaching performance….
If teacher A has had 100 students that their teaching assessed and only 10 of those 100 have progressed to the next level, this would result in a progression rate of 10%.
On the other hand, if teacher B has 200 students assessed and 50 progressed to the next level, they will have a progression rate of 25%.
The ideal time frame to monitor such data is over 3 to 6 months of teaching.
Teachers exhibiting a low progression rate compared to the average of the other teachers may need some additional guidance or up skilling with teaching methods.
Another factor which must be considered is that different levels have a harder skill set and therefore will have a slower progression than other levels. This is why, we recommend filtering the teacher’s performance based on specific levels.
Only by monitoring such data, can a swim school really know the quality of their teaching and maximizing student progression.
This all sounds great in theory however, collecting this assessment information and collating it into a report can be tedious and time consuming.
This is where technology can be used to collect such data more efficiently.
Such a report is just one of the progression based reports in our SwimDesk software which allows you to monitor the performance of your teachers more carefully and ensure the progression rates are optimized as this is really the most proactive way to maximize customer satisfaction and retention.
At the end of the day, operating a successful swim school is about caring about the customer and a big part of this is ensuring you are doing everything possible to maximize student progression and the use of progression based reporting is just one way to do this.
