The latest technological advancement is a game changer for Australian based swim school.
Australia has just become the third country in the world to roll out speedy new internet technology – known as “5G”.
5G represents the fifth generation of mobile network technology, and it promises to be as much of a leap forward as 4G mobile broadband was back in 2011.
Currently, only Telstra customers can buy 5G compatible phones and modems that promise super-fast speeds.
Optus and other telcos will also start offering the service in the coming months.
Downloads are 10 to 20 times quicker than 4G, which means an entire movie can be downloaded in just five seconds!
Compatible tablets from Samsung and Apple will not be available immediately but will likely hit the market later in 2019.
By the end of this year, the new super-fast mobile network will be operating in all major capital cities and regional areas.
This is a game changer for swim schools as they will be able to use tablets in the pool for recording assessments more effectively. A lot of centres have already started using tablets with waterproof casing.
What a lot of centres don’t know is that water is not great for signal strength as it absorbs the signal (rather than bounce back). This can reduce the effectiveness or WiFi and 4G connections making them slower on the pool deck or in the water.
The 5G network will allow centres to enjoy super fast speeds on their tablets. This will speed up their assessment processes when using tools like SwimDesk.
It’s early days, but we will see significant adoption of 5G devices in Swim schools over the next 12-24 months so stay tuned and get ready!
