Today, I wanted to share a quick tip for improving your assessment process in your swim school.
When you’re communicating assessment results to parents, you want it to be really clear, and you want it to be not easily misinterpreted in terms of what has been assessed. And where a child sits in terms of the progress of a skill.
That means you need to be careful when picking your marking options for your assessment process.
Now, I like to recommend to our clients to use four words. And I think four words allow you to give enough contexts to where a child sits in terms of the development of a skill.
The words that we recommend are: “Introduced” which means the skills were starting. “Improving” which means it’s kind of halfway there and getting there. “Consolidating” which means it’s almost there and but it’s not entirely putting the whole skill together and then “competent”.
Those words are clear, and the parent can’t misinterpret that. It paints a clear picture of progress to the parent by giving them clarity about where the child sits in their lesson.
